Game 1 vs. Havas Media
CTP Softball kicked off the season with a 7-2 loss to Havas. CTP got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Chris bashed a double to center field to score Alan.
Fred, the Opening Day starter, pitched a strong 4 innings. His only stumble came in the second inning, when Havas strung together a few hits and put up 5 runs. Tyler came in to pitch the 5th and 6th innings, and Havas put 2 more on the board. Michael, the crafty lefty, pitched a clean 7th.
CTP played great defense behind their pitchers to keep the game within reach. The Brians split time at shortstop, and both of them came up big; Brian H. made a sprinting, backpedaling catch on a shallow flyball in the 4th and Brian F. went full extension with a diving catch on a line drive in the 6th. Michael & Alan tracked a few deep balls down in left field and left center, respectively. Eddie was a vacuum at the hot corner, and it was a good thing too: he had a lot of action over there. John got to be part of a play-at-the-plate when we was catching in the 6th. The runner scored, but it was a close play.
Down 6 runs in the bottom of the 7th, Michael led off the inning with a single up the middle to start the comeback rally. Dana hit a stinger to the shortstop and beat out the double play. Alan popped out to left to make the second out. That brought up Big Bad Chris who smashed a triple in the gap and brought Dana home. That’d be the end of the comeback effort, though, as Brian F. got under one and flied out.
